Big Sound 2013

I was asked to join the official team to cover BigSound again this year. Out of all the festivals throughout the calendar year this is one that I still love to cover. Even though the days are long with conferences starting at 9:30am and the live music ending at midnight, the feeling throughout the Valley each year is something you do not get at any other music festivals. So when I was asked to join the official BigSound team (joining fellow kick ass photographers John Stubbs, Aimee Catt and Rick Clifford) I couldn’t say no.

What I also love about shooting this event is the many facets of the event you have to try and cover. There is the conference, with speakers ranging from Billy Bragg, Amanda Palmer, John Watson (Silverchair, Missy Higgins and Little Birdy) and Michael Chugg. Along with that trying to capture the audience, the networking and the general feeling across the daytime festivities.

One thing I LOVE shooting are the instore performances. This year I shot Patrick James performing in Jamie’s Espresso carpark with a very intimate audience.

Each night kicks off with a host of VIP sponsored parties. The Opening Night party hosted at the Spiegletent over at Southbank officially launched BigSound.

Back in the Valley 12 stages host the musicians showcase. Acts that I managed to catch include Eden Mulholland, Money for Rope, The Lazys, Dune Rats, Billy Bragg and a whole heap of others.
